Minutes: September 17, 2015

 

1. Introduction of Committee Members

Dr. Worchesky welcomed the new committee members to the Undergraduate Council.

2. Minutes from April 23, 2015 were approved as written.

3. Other Business

Dr. Worchesky explained to new members how the UGC operates. He also explained how the UGC processed Academic Program Reviews and Year Three Reviews.

4. Election of UGC Chair

Dr. Worchesky discussed the nomination of the Chair. The UGC voted unanimously for Dr. Susan McDonough to serve as the new UGC Chair.

5. Postings

The following postings were discussed and approved:

6. The following postings were tabled and need departments to submit additional information:

The UGC discussed and tabled the following courses from 9/17/2015 meeting:

BIOL 490 – Chemical Communication and Brain Disorders (New) – The UGC tabled the course because there seems to be a problem with the required short papers (10) and the number found in the schedule of classes (4). The UGC was also concerned that the workload was light for a 400-level class.

POLI 372 – Understanding Transitioning Nations: Study Abroad in Poland (New) – The UGC requested that the department updated the course proposal and receive support from the Study Aboard Program.

POLI 476 – State and Societal Transition in Post-Communist Europe: Study Abroad in Poland (New)

The UGC discussed and tabled the following courses from 4/23/2015 meeting:

ART 339 – Design Thinking for the Social Entrepreneur (New) – The UGC tabled the course because it was not clear why the department selected ENGL 110.

ART 355 – The Dao of Intermedia (New) – The UGC tabled the course because it was not clear if the department intended to combined or cross-list the course because both were used in the proposal. The UGC stated that the description is not clear and it suggest that the final sentence be dropped. They suggested the department consider re-writing the description. Also, the department needs to state it the prerequisite will be C or better.
